How the Blues began…

In 2020 when the Covid-19 Pandemic first hit one of the very first things that we lost were live events. Concerts, theatre shows, sporting events and, of course, trade shows were all removed from the calendar – and as you can imagine, along with them went all of the philatelic shows and competitions for the foreseeable future.

Here at Stanley Gibbons, we know how hard collectors work on their competition entries, in fact we have a number of Vermillion and Large Gold winners right here in our very own team, and we wanted to do what we could to keep the competitions alive. So, we created the SG Blues, a simple online single sheet competition with a low bar for entry that encouraged people to give philatelic competitions a try... And we were blown away by the response!

For the first year of SG Blues we received over 75 entries from around the world and more than 2,300 people visited the website to vote for their favourite entries, making this one of the largest single sheet philatelic competitions in Europe.

We would like to thank our friends at Stamp Active who have helped us to promote the SG Blues competition to a younger stamp-loving audience.
